GAME 1: Sox take 1-0 World Series lead with 8-4 win

BOSTON — Andrew Benintendi, J.D. Martinez and the Boston Red Sox came out swinging in the World Series opener, seizing every advantage in their quirky ballpark to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-4 on a chilly, windy Tuesday night.

It was 53 degrees at first pitch and it dropped into the mid-40s by the end. That was the coldest game for Los Angeles this season and quite a contrast from last year's World Series, when it was a record 103 degrees for the opener at Dodger Stadium against Houston.

12:00 a.m.: The Red Sox took a 1-0 series lead in the 2018 World Series with an 8-4 win against the Dodgers.

A neck-and-neck game through six-and-a-half innings, Nunez' homer put the Sox ahead for good in the bottom of the seventh.

11:32 p.m.: Eduardo Nunez puts the Sox up 8-4 with a 3-run shot in the bottom of the seventh and Fenway comes to life again.

11:15 p.m.: The Dodgers pull one back to make it 5-4.

Sox make it to the bottom of the seventh with a one run lead.

Benintendi goes 4-4 with a single to start the bottom of the seventh.

10:49 p.m.: Joe Kelly keeps it 5-3 with a clean sixth inning.

10:32 p.m.: Benni comes in to make it 5-3. Joe Kelly slated to come in for the sixth inning.

10:28 p.m.: Boston gets back in front with an RBI from Xander Bogaerts in the fifth inning.

10:20 p.m.: Clayton Kershaw comes out of Game 1 in the fifth inning.

10:14 p.m.: The Dodgers pull another back to level Game 1 at 3 in the fifth inning.

9:55 p.m.: Chris Sale is pulled in the top of the fifth with the Sox leading 3-2. Matt Barnes comes in to replace him.

9:48 p.m.: Nathan Eovaldi starts warming up in the bullpen, but sits back down. Matt Barnes then begins warming up in the bullpen.

9:30 p.m.: J.D. Martinez hits one off the center field wall to bring the go ahead run home midway through the third inning.

9:16 p.m.: Manny Machado singles to left field as the Dodgers tie it up 2-2.

9:07 p.m.: The Sox stay up 2-1 after the second inning.

The Dodgers retired the side with a double play at first and second.

8:55 p.m.: Matt Kemp sends one over the Monster to pull one back for the Dodgers in the top of the second.

8:39 p.m.: Benni follows Mookie home on a J.D. Martinez single before Martinez is thrown out trying to steal second.

Sox are retired in the first up 2-0.

8:30 p.m.: The Sox strike first to get on the board 1-0.

8:00 p.m.: James Taylor sang the national anthem shortly before the first pitch of Game 1.

7:15 p.m.:  The tarp has been pulled back.

6:15 p.m.: If you thought Boston sports couldn't get any tighter or any more awesome, Bill Belichick stepped in to take game one of the World Series up a notch.

5:15 p.m.: Alex Cora appeared at a news conference from Fenway Tuesday afternoon.

5:00 p.m.: As tornado warnings plagued much of southern Massachusetts, the skies opened up over Fenway Park just hours before the first pitch in Game 1.

But the skies cleared and rainbows alighted over Fenway. Good omen?

4:00 p.m.: A Tornado Warning and Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for parts of Bristol, Norfolk and Plymouth counties.

Heavy rain moved through Fenway Park as these warnings were in effect.

2:00 p.m.: Red Sox legend, Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski will throw out ceremonial first pitch of Game 1. Yastrzemski threw out the first pitch for Game 1 of the 2004, 2007 and 2013 World Series. (The Red Sox won each of those games)

12:20 p.m.: The first person in line for Game 1 tickets will get her voucher to buy tickets at 5 p.m. She has been in line since 4:30 p.m. Monday.

10:48 a.m.: The Red Sox active roster for the World Series:

10:11 a.m.: Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and Boston Police Commissioner William Gross give an update on public safety plans ahead of Game 1 at Fenway Park.

There will be traffic and parking restrictions near Fenway Park and an increased police presence for Game 1.

The mayor reinforced that public drinking and climbing on cars will not be tolerated:

8:00 a.m.: With about 12 hours to go before Game 1 gets underway, the streets around Fenway Park are starting to fill with fans and those hoping to snag tickets this morning.

5:42 a.m.: Fans are already arriving at Fenway Park to get in line for game day tickets. Boston Police are also warning people ahead of the series that they should buy tickets only from an authorized retailer. Fans who choose to purchase from a secondary source run the risk of getting scammed on counterfeit tickets.

4:15 a.m: We're live at Fenway Park for complete coverage of the Sox in the Series.

Hometown favorite James Taylor will sing the national anthem for tonight's game.
