Mother, daughter rescued from burning triple-decker in Dorchester

BOSTON — A fire that ripped through a three-story building in Roxbury displaced 10 people on Wednesday night.

The flames broke out just after 8 p.m. on the 6 Woodward Park Street building.

Firefighters rescued a mother and her daughter from the burning building, and were taken to an area hospital to get checked out.

"Our guys are well trained ready for this stuff. We have plenty of help in the city. We're very lucky - it pays off in these situations, we were here quick. That's our game plan, get here quick, fast response, do what we have to do," said Dep. Chief Michael Doherty.

The fire forced 10 people from their homes, where some of them were being evaluated at the scene. The Red Cross is now assisting the families.

One firefighter had to be taken to the hospital to get checked out.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
