Felicity Huffman: 3 things to know about actress charged in cheating scandal

LOS ANGELES — Felicity Huffman, an actress best known for her role as Lynette Scavo in the ABC comedy-drama "Desperate Housewives," is among at least 40 people who were charged in a college cheating scheme.

Huffman was taken into custody Tuesday. She is charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud.

Here are some things to know about the TV and theater actress’s role in the scandal:

1. She is married to actor William H. Macy

Huffman married Macy in 1997. They met in 1985 in New York.

2. She has two daughters

Huffman and Macy have two daughters together, 18-year-old Sofia Grace Macy and 16-year-old Georgia Grace Macy.

3. Huffman is accused of paying to have their daughter participate in a college entrance exam cheating scheme

The Associated Press reported that, according to court documents, Huffman paid $15,000 for Sofia Grace Macy to have extra time to take a college entrance exam. TMZ reported that the indictment says her daughter was given twice the amount of time other students had to take the SAT and the proctor was secretly paid to correct her answers afterward. The payment was disguised as a charitable donation.

Macy has not been charged, The AP reported.
